Strategic projects should be led by a project team. Here are some suggestions for developing a project team (for corporate management)
1. The chairman of the board and management should participate and direct the project team in developing and implementing the plan.
2. Provide clear direction to members, such as those directly involved in the project team, key informants, reviewers of planning documents, and planners, etc.
3. The main task of the board of directors is to develop strategic plans to effectively direct the company's activities. Therefore, the board of directors needs to participate in projects and appoint a planning committee (like the board of directors).
4. There should always be at least one person on the project team who has the authority to make basic strategic decisions, such as choosing what to achieve and how to do it.
5. Must be closely linked to those responsible for establishing and implementing the plan
6. Must be associated with process managers including: organizing meetings, assisting in collecting important information, documents, checking work status...
7. Consider documenting key steps in the planning process so that the company can manage its plan as it is implemented.
Note the following:
Different employees need different time to implement the plan. For example, management is responsible for providing strategic direction (mission, goals, performance) then it is the employee's responsibility to analyze the strategy to determine the company's target directives to carefully develop the necessary strategy to achieve the objectives according to the directives.
The company should provide as much exposure as possible to the project team, employees, and planners. A couple of mixed projects will help management members stay on top of issues and help employees understand the company's key plans.
How many meetings do we need to hold?
Many young planners wonder how many meetings they should have and what they should include… they want a process for planning. The number of meetings depends on whether the company has ever planned before, how many projects and goals the company has worked on, whether the company traditionally prefers long or short meetings, and how much time the company has allocated for planning.
Try to complete the plan within two to three months as support will gradually decrease and efforts for the plan will decrease.
Meeting schedule
It is best to hold meetings two to three weeks into the planning process or it will be very demotivating.
The most important factor in getting the work done is that the meetings are supported by the executive. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the leadership team provides clear direction that demonstrates their support and interest in the strategic planning process and that they are involved in the planning.
